Napa Vineyard Somnium Wine

Danica Patrick

Famed racecar driver Danica Patrick is not only a dreamer, but a doer. In 2006 she fell in love with Napa Valley. By 2009, she had purchased a vineyard property on Howell Mountain, and named it Somnium, which means “to dream” in Latin.

“Some of my favorite things in life are cooking, food and wine, so when I fell in love with the Napa Valley, I knew I needed to find a perfect property of my own.” With the help of esteemed winemaker Aaron Pott, Danica found her dream property on Howell Mountain—and Somnium was born.

The idyllic 22-acre property sits at 1,300 feet just below the Howell Mountain appellation, a region known for its diverse mountain terrain and the wines, which are intense, balanced and exquisitely structured. Vineyard development began in 2011 with winemaker Aaron Pott at the helm, and by 2017, the inaugural Somnium Cabernet Sauvignon was released to much acclaim. This year the portfolio will grow to include an estate saignée-style Rosé and an elegant Sauvignon Blanc from the Bavarian Lion Vineyard in Knights Valley.

“Now that Somnium is a reality, my next dream is to create an environment and experience at my property, where others can fall in love with Napa Valley, just like I did. My dreams never stop, they just continue to evolve. I can’t tell you how many times I have signed an autograph for a child and added the note—dream big! It is a life motto—it’s how I think, how I live, and what I preach.” Somnium is an extension of this philosophy and our wines reflect the love and intensity that Danica pours into everything she does.
