Napa Vineyard Sodhani

Arvind and Beverly Sodhani

It is said: “Fortunate is the one who can find profit in their passions.” Semi-retired Silicon Valley venture capitalist Arvind Sodhani and his wife Beverly found just that, as owners of Sodhani Vineyards.

Since 2006, The Sodhani’s have been buying grapes and making wine as a personal project and to the pleasure of their wine-loving friends and family.

An enthusiasm for wine developed early on in Arvind’s college years when he began collecting Burgundy’s and Bordeaux’s. As his collection of wine grew, so did his thirst for knowledge of the winemaking process. His immersion into all things wine blossomed from there into a vineyard purchase. The Sodhani’s now make a quaint Cabernet, approximately 600 cases a year, to keep that personal touch on crafting a high-end cult wine.

Arvind manages the farming aspect and is fully involved in the wine making and blending sessions, working closely onsite with their premier winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Beverly handles all marketing and sales efforts and treats every wine buyer as part of their family. Burgundy & Bordeaux are the vineyard’s pup patrol.

The Sodhani’s chose winemaker Thomas from a shortlist of top winemakers for his expertise in hillside Napa Cabernet Sauvignons and is one of only a handful of winemakers globally to have received multiple 100-point wine scores from wine critics. Thomas is an in-demand talent with a veracity for understanding the Sodhani’s terroir.

The Sodhani’s had been looking for a hillside Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard for a decade. Just when they were about to give up, they fell into their 12 acre vineyard with six-and-a-half-acre planted, resting on a terroir twice as expansive as they were expecting. Known as an excellent source of quality grapes, this property provided grapes used by Harlan Estate Winery. The Sodhani’s knew they’d finally found their perfect terroir with one taste of the vineyard’s barrel wine provided by Don Weaver-Managing Director of Harlan Estate Winery.

The most rewarding aspect as Beverly reflects is growing closer to a loyal, enthusiastic customer base. Their customers send pictures when they’re having Sodhani wine as they take it with them on vacations and outings. She says sharing in the merriment of loyal customers who won’t leave home without Sodhani wine is fulfilling for both her and Arvind.
