The most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy, Duchenne is a devastating, progressive muscle-wasting disease mainly found in young boys. Affecting 15,000 children in the U.S. and 300,000 worldwide, there is currently no known cure for Duchenne.
Bryant Estate is a producer of one of California’s First Growth wines and one of Napa Valley’s most esteemed labels, reflecting the vision of proprietors Don and Bettina Bryant. After purchasing land on Pritchard Hill nearly 30 years ago, Don replanted the estate with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, employing modern viticulture practices and nurturing a team of local and international masters of their craft. His efforts quickly established one of California’s premier First Growth wines, the Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, now among Napa Valley’s most sought after wines. Bryant Estate wines are currently harvested, blended and produced entirely by hand from grapes planted and grown on the original 13-acre estate, as well as on neighboring vineyards on Howell Mountain and Saint Helena. The wines are also bottled, labeled, and packed by hand on the estate, then shipped directly to collectors. Today, Bryant Estate is led by President and Proprietor, Bettina Bryant alongside winemaker KK Carothers and Estate Director, Tony McClung.
Midwest-raised, James Beard Award-winning Chef Chris Shepherd has helped change the landscape of the Houston culinary scene since opening Underbelly in 2012. Chef Shepherd was named one of the 10 Best New Chefs in America by Food & Wine in 2013 and was then awarded the 2014 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. In 2019, all three of his restaurants—UB Preserv, One Fifth Mediterranean and Georgia James—nabbed the No. 1 spot on Texas Monthly‘s list of the Best New Restaurants in Texas, and Georgia James was included on GQ‘s list of the best new restaurants in America. He was a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2019 and was named Robb Report‘s Chef of the Year the same year. Chris’ foundation Southern Smoke has distributed more than $7.7 million—both directly to people in the food and beverage industry in need via the Emergency Relief Fund and to organizations that represent the needs of people in the industry.
Fritz Hatton is the nation’s most experienced wine auctioneer. He and his wife Caren own the Napa Valley winery Arietta, one of the region’s top producers of Bordeaux-style wines. A native of Michigan, Hatton is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale with a degree in English Literature, and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Organization and Management. He began his career in Christie’s Wine Department in 1980 where he remained off-and-on for more than 20 years, moving from management to Principal Wine Auctioneer. During several breaks from Christie’s during the 1990s, Hatton briefly returned to his classical music studies (which he had begun at age 7). Hatton joined Zachys Wine Auctions in 2002, where he continues to conduct commercial wine auctions, in addition to hundreds of charitable auctions nationwide, and of course, overseeing Arietta winery.
