Love Cures is inspired by the Etienne and Filenko families. From worlds apart, these families settled in San Diego and, by circumstance, connected through the love of their young sons, Yannick, 6, and Marko, 7. Both boys were diagnosed with a rare condition called Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive muscle wasting disease that slowly strips away a patient’s ability to run, walk, hug and, eventually, breathe. The initial diagnosis was isolating for both families, as they didn’t know anyone else with Duchenne. After meeting each other at a local Duchenne clinic, the Etiennes and Filenkos immediately decided to work together to find a cure by teaming up with CureDuchenne, a national nonprofit recognized as the global leader in research, patient care and innovation for improving and extending the lives of children with Duchenne.
Love Cures’ goal is to raise funds for vital research in the search for a cure as well as to create more awareness for Duchenne among the San Diego community, caretakers, educators, family and friends.
Love Cures is a night of fun, food and music to fund a cure for Duchenne.
