Cure Duchenne Runners Race in Boston Marathon

Carolyn Simitz, Mike Thompson, and DMD Dad Daryl Parish all competed in the Boston Marathon this last week running for the boys who can’t. They raised money and awareness to go for a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Mike Thompson, Daryl Parrish, and Carolyn Simitz
Daryl, gave a great write up of the event as follows:
“CureDuchenne was represented by three runners; Carolyn Simitz, Mike Thompson (Tim Revell’s friend and running partner) and me. We all met up prior to the race in the Athletes’ Village area.
“The weather was near perfect with clear skies, and temperatures at the start in the high 40’s, warming slightly into the low to mid-50’s by race’s end.
“Runners are assigned corrals based on their qualifying times. Mike started in corral #4, ahead of Carolyn and I, who started in corral #11. Carolyn was kind enough to drop back one corral so we could start together. Our plan was to run at a pace that would put us finishing at or around 3:30. We both started with our water bottles as to avoid the large crowds at the first two of three water stops. Carolyn and I ran together for the first two or so miles at a significantly faster pace than the plan. That girl is wicked fast so I slowed my pace down and watched her pull away into the crowd of bobbing heads.
“The Boston crowds did not disappoint. The entire race course was lined with wonderful spectators, particularly the last half of the race. As it turns out, Mike finished with the best time among us with a 3:14, and then Carolyn followed up with a 3:28. I closed us out with a 3:50.
“I think I can speak for all of us when I say that it was an honor to be one of the 25,000 participants, all having met the time standards imposed by the race organizers. It was also an incredible privilege and opportunity for us to run this race for all of the boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The CureDuchenne green was well represented on Monday.”
Thank you Daryl, Mike, and Carolyn and everyone who has ever “Run for the Boys who can’t”.
