Kids Helping Kids ... to Help Kids
It's Never Too Early!
|
Mission Statement
The mission of “Kids Helping Kids” is to involve Orange County kids and their parents in the fight against the number one genetic killer of children, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Over the past year, we have been approached by children of all ages asking how they can help. Many of these children know a Duchenne boy, as there are several families in the Newport/Orange County that are affected.
|
Strategy
CureDuchenne organizes local schools, scout troops, church groups and neighbors to disseminate information regarding Duchenne. Our goal is to help kids learn to give back to their community and provide public service in an underserved area that affects their peers. We teach kids how to plan, organize and implement public awareness campaigns and fundraising events. For those who are interested we provide intern programs where they can learn the business of a non-profit organization. For most kids, this will be their first service project which opens their eyes to the needs of disadvantaged children in their community.
The spirit and habit of giving and philanthropy starts early in life. “Kids Helping Kids” is a program designed to instill in the youth of Newport Beach and surrounding areas, a desire to help kids in their community who are severely disabled and physically disadvantaged by the genetic defect, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We accomplish our goals by involving the kids in activities that are fun and educational. We want our local kids to enjoy helping others, so this positive association will stay with them a lifetime.
CureDuchenne professionals will help them through the process, providing them with the tools and support necessary for success. Our current 2006 programs include: |

| Catchpenny's Chance for a Lifetime Tour
|
Catchpenny, a hot new band out of the mid-west, has rallied with us and will donate their time and services to reach out to the youth in our community through their music. They have agreed to perform at schools, concerts and private events in order to rally the youth of this community to participate in a great cause. Students will be able to help in the planning and promotion of these mini concerts.

Custom Programs
CureDuchenne encourages kids to come up with their own ideas. We help them through the process...proposing the idea, developing the strategy, creating a budget, organizing a team, implementing the event and finally reviewing their overall success.
We can’t think of a more worthy cause then helping kids understand early the value and satisfaction that comes from involvement in charitable giving. Please help us turn on the light in our kids’ hearts by the joy they will experience in successfully helping others.

| How Two Students Made a Difference |
| Newport Coast, CA – Sunday, May 1, 2006. Kids can make a difference. When a young student at the Pegasus School in Huntington Beach, heard that one of her fellow students had a fatal disorder called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Leila Pozin (13) made it her mission to raise funds to help find a cure. Leila joined forces with the MK Soccer Club who helped put on a fantastic day of 3-on-3 soccer at Sage Hills High School. The field was filled with over 100 enthusiastic kids (and parents) playing soccerfor CureDuchenne. Leila’s small event netted great results, with $4,000 in donations. |
|
Leila gained the support and help from friends, family, Sage Hill High School, and the MK Soccer Club to manage a fun day of soccer. Mohammed Khakpour, one of the star players of the Iranian Soccer team who played in the 1998 World Cup, and his team volunteered their time and efforts coaching all the players. Food and beverages were donated by the Pozin family and their great circle of friends in the community.
The following year Leila was joined by her best friend Charolotte...
