Austin, Texas - February 18, 2007. Tim Revell, impassioned father of 3 ½ year old Timothy, ran for CureDuchenne in the AT&T Austin Marathon to support Timothy's race for life. In July 2005, Timothy was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most common and always lethal genetic killer of young boys worldwide. This disorder causes young boys to experience progressive muscle weakness, as their muscle cells die and don’t regenerate. Most will be in wheel chairs by 12 and few live past their teens. It can happen in any family. There is no cure.

As we face the future, we realize tackling this disorder head on is the only way we’ll ever find a cure,“ said Tim Revell. “We want to save THIS generation of boys and have partnered with CureDuchenne to bring to market life-saving treatments, and hopefully a cure, for our Duchenne boys. I ran, and will continue running, for the boys who can’t. It’s not just a race….it’s a race for Timothy’s life."

Last year, Revell ran 4:07 in the marathon and raised $14,000 for Duchenne research from contributions. This year, Revell stepped up his pace and ran the marathon in 3:44 and raised almost $20,000 for CureDuchenne and the research that could save his son.

CureDuchenne was one of nine charities that received authorization from the marathon to raise money. This not-for-profit organization was founded by parents whose only son was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. “We can’t afford to be subtle,” said Debra Miller, Founder and President. “There’s just no time. We’re fighting for our boys and the lives of the one in every 3,500 boys, worldwide, with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. All will die if we don't make finding practical therapies and the cure priorities. There are exciting breakthroughs in science today, but Duchenne research is terribly under-funded. That's why Tim’s efforts are invaluable. His fundraising efforts help us aggressively support those projects TODAY that can give our boys a chance for tomorrow. We're working with families, city by city, with a common goal…to put urgency into saving our sons."
